Lucknow, Oct 1 (ANI): At least 12 people were crushed to death and a dozen injured when an under-construction flyover collapsed in Lucknow.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, who visited the site, has blamed the collapse on low quality of materials used for construction.
"It seems that low quality material was used for construction, that's why the bridge collapsed. We would ask the Central Government to conduct high-level investigation into the mishap and conduct strict inquiry against those found guilty," Mayawati said.
Mayawati said the flyover was a centrally funded project initiated by the National Highways Authority of India and announced compensation for the families of those killed.
The injured were admitted to a nearby hospital.
A few bodies and some vehicles were seen buried under the debris. People used to park vehicles under the under-construction flyover.
The flyover, located on the Lucknow-Faizabad road, has been under construction since the last two years. (ANI)
