New Delhi, June 20 (ANI): With several rape cases being reported from Uttar Pradesh within a month, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday accused the Mayawati Government of supporting criminals, saying that law and order has vanished with the complete crash of the police structure.
"If the Chief Minister feels that incidences of rape which are being committed almost on the daily basis and unfortunately the state government is not responding, which it should, the police is demoralized. The government is totally supporting the criminal elements," said Singh.
"In every transfers and postings, the police people have to pay money to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Therefore, the whole police structure has collapsed and there is no law in order in the state of UP (Uttar Pradesh)," he added.
A 35-year old married woman was set on fire after being allegedly gang raped by five men in Uttar Pradesh's Etah District late on Sunday night.
Condemning the incident of rape being reported from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj District on Saturday morning, Digvijay Singh on Sunday said no justice can be expected during the regime of Chief Minister Mayawati.
"No justice can be expected during the regime of Mayawati. Officials in Mayawati's government are corrupt and incompetent," he said.
The police have arrested one Niranjan Yadav, one of the accused in the case.
The two accused Kuldip Loniya and Niranjan Yadav, dragged Preeti, 14, into the fields on Saturday morning and when she resisted, they assaulted and stabbed her eyes.
The girl was discovered in the fields by villagers and was later rushed to the district hospital.
The doctor, who operated the girl said: "The left eye is completely damaged.
The inner parts of the eye are severely damaged. The cornea is badly damaged, may not come back to its normal condition."
Earlier on June 10, a minor girl was found hanging inside the Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur District, which drew sharp criticism from various political outfits.
The second autopsy conducted on the minor girl's body, which was found hanging from a tree within the compound of Nighasan police station confirmed that the victim was murdered.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the case.he victim's mother in her complaint alleged that the girl was raped and murdered. (ANI)
