Controversies are part of our life; sometime it opens a new world as we delve in such matter to know about it more and more. Controversies in science make it a subject of interest. Sometime it clouds our thoughts and belief but as somebody has aptly said, “Controversy, though always an evil in itself, is sometimes a necessary evil.”
Human mind is always driven by mystery around it, in fact mystery in life and the world around us keeps going. This has led to many interesting findings, but some cases still remain the subject of speculation as no conclusion has been reached till now.
Woman at Mars
Recently the controversy which showed a naked woman perched with her arm stretched at a rock on the surface of Mars grabbed the attention of the whole world. The image was later found to be the artistic creation of a blogger.
Moon Landing Hoax
Few years back controversy that NASA’s moon landing was a hoax was doing round in the media, the argument was around the shadows illuminated from lunar surface and around the American flag which was fluttering as there is no wind on the moon among others.
But it was explained that the sun, is not the only source of direct light, the moon also reflects light and thus illuminate all things on the surface. And there is vacuum at moon surface and since there is no friction, the flag straightened while attaching to the surface remain so for a longer period of time.
Nazca Lines
The magnificent geoglyphs and geometric lines, run parallel to the Andes and the sea, it is said that dark red stones and soil have been cleared away exposing the lighter –colored subsoil, creating the lines.
Interestingly these lines can be viewed from air which besides lines shows animals and plants depictions. The creation is estimated to have taken hundreds of year with the help of large number of people; the controversy surrounding Nazca became evident in 1930s, many viewed it as an airfield for alien spacecraft.
Here such theory was proposed just because one can not think of people during that age could have created such patterns without any such technology.
Roswell Incident
Roswell UFO Incident involved the recovery of materials near Roswell, New Mexico, USA, many proponents of UFO believed that the debris of craft recovered was not the top secret research balloon as claimed by US military but the remains was that of alien spacecraft.
The mystery surrounding Roswell is still unexplained and has become a subject of controversy several a times.
Giant Human Skeleton
There had been reports of giant human skeleton measuring 7-12 metre being unearthed from Australia and America. It is said that such news are generally masked because these giant skeleton could not be fitted into the evolutionary tree.
Since controversy has no place in science as it is based on debate and facts, but such controversies do erupt from time to time, some create hypothesis to fit in their musings, while other do it to cover up things if it has no explanation for it. These are few cases among others, in some media is responsible for creating sensation like Woman on Mars and Moon landing hoax while in other the scientific community were confused to lead or enlighten the mass.
