Tripoli, June 14 (ANI): Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddafi was given yet another setback when Sassi Garada, one of his regime's oldest members, fled the country.
The Telegraph quoted London-based Libyan analyst Noman Benotman as saying that Garada, one of the first men to join Gaddafi when he assumed power over 40 years ago, left Libya through Tunisia.
Guma el-Gamaty, the UK organiser of Libya's interim council, also confirmed Garada's defection.
There were initial reports that Garada had fled to Britain, where he has several family members, but Benotman said Garada was in Switzerland.
A Swiss foreign ministry spokesman, however, failed to confirm whether Garada was present in Switzerland.
The longtime aide of Gaddafi had reportedly passed up several military promotions over the years to stay out of the limelight and serve the dictator. (ANI)
