Paris, June 14 (ANI): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has shortlisted French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Mexican central bank chief Agustin Carstens for the IMF's top job after the post fell vacant following Dominique Strauss-Kahn's resignation over alleged sexual assault charges. '
IMF, however, has disqualified Bank of Israel's 67-year-old Stanley Fischer because of his age, The Telegraph reports.
An official statement by the IMF board has confirmed that it would consider two candidates for the organisation's top job.
"The Executive Board will meet with the candidates in Washington DC and, thereafter, meet to discuss the strengths of the candidates and make a selection," it added.
Front-runner Lagarde is backed by the European Union and a handful of smaller countries, while Carstens reportedly has the support of a dozen Latin American countries.
Strauss Kaan is currently under house arrest in his New York mansion over charges that he had sexually assaulted a hotel maid in the city, which he had vehemently denied. (ANI)
