Congress to launch nationwide stirs to counter opposition agitations over corruption

New Delhi , Fri, 10 Jun 2011 ANI

New Delhi, June 10(ANI): Stung by intense political and public backlash against it over corruption, the Congress party on Friday said that it has decided to launch nationwide agitations to counter the string of stirs organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other social activists and leaders in the recent past.

Announcing the planned initiative, Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi told mediapersons in New Delhi that senior party leaders would be traveling across the country to dispel common 'misconceptions' among the people on the Central government's functioning.

"The Congress party has decided to organize certain peaceful programs across the country. We want to tell the people of India the truth behind certain allegations leveled against us and our perspective on the present situation," Dwivedi said.

For the last few months, the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has come under intense scrutiny over charges of its involvement in a spate of scams exposed by media and vigilance agencies.

The scams have also triggered fierce public and political outcry against the Congress leaders and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who has been criticized by many for not taking 'concrete' steps in bringing the guilty to book. (ANI)
