New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): The Russian Cultural Center is playing host these days to sixty works of fifty contemporary Russian artists from the private collection of Indian writer, poet, artist and diplomat Abhay Kumar.

The exhibition will be on in New Delhi till June 17.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Kiran Walia, Delhi's Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Major Dalbir Singh, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, delivered the keynote address.

In his address, Abhay Kumar said: "My Russian art collection is collection love, passion and ideas. St. Petersburg transformed me into an artist and an avid art collector. Russia and India are not only connected by Aeroflot flights but by bonding of the soul. That's what I want to show through this exhibition."

Speaking on the occasion, Walia described Kumar as an industrious and multifaceted person. She said that he was writer, poet, artist and diplomat, all rolled into one.

"The great love he has received from the artists of St. Petersburg is visible in this exhibition. India and Russia will continue to be the best of friends," said Walia.

The opening of the exhibition was followed by a concert by a Russian music group 'Maestro' from St. Petersburg. The concert featured Alexander Satsenko (accordion), Audrey Baranenko (piano), Ekatarina Shulenkova (violin), Audrey Bobrov (vocalist) and Maria Galkina (vocalist).

The exhibition is a part of other events organised to mark the National Day of Russia.

Kumar's art works have been exhibited in several countries, including France and Russia, and have found a place in private collections in France, Japan, the Netherlands and Russia.

Ekaterina Andreeva, the senior art critic at the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, said Kumar's collection is different from the professionally assembled collections of contemporary art in terms of great variety of artists it has.

It has the famous writer and painter Vladimir Shinkarev and unique artist-philosopher Boris Koshelokhov and popular star of contemporary Russian art scene Alexander Florensky, and an excellent critic, artist Andrey Khlobystin and keeper of the traditions of Russian avant-garde Gennady Zubkov, and there is also little known masters, whose works are in some way close and interesting to Kumar.

Kumar joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2003 and studied Russian language, history and literature at the Centre of International Education, Moscow State University.

He served earlier in Moscow at the Embassy of India and as Consul at the Consulate-General of India in St. Petersburg. He has many books to his credit, prominent among them are "River Valley to Silicon Valley", "Enigmatic Love", "Fallen Leaves of Autumn", "10 Questions of the Soul" etc. (ANI)
