Kolkata, June 10 (ANI): A ten-day Turkish food festival that began on Friday is all set to enthrall food-lovers in Kolkata.
The organizers are hopeful that the festival, which features 48 varieties of Turkish delicacies, would be a huge draw.
"The purpose of the festival was to get some new flavours in Kolkata because in Kolkata, mainly everyone knows Italian, Chinese and the usual delicacies. We wanted to bring something new and show the other parts of Europe and the Mediterranean cuisine. We have 48 items on the menu and the seven best items are being displayed today to start with," said Davide Cananzi, executive chef, Hotel Hindustan International.
Both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian items are displayed, including specialties like 'Balik Dolmaasi' (stuffed fish with walnuts), 'Goban Salata' (shepherd's salad), 'Taze Fasulye' (Green beans with olive oil), 'Karides Salatasai' (shrimp salad), 'Karisik Dolma' (stuffed mixed vegetables).
One of the chefs said people all over the world enjoy Turkish food, but India has few opportunities to experience the cuisine.
" You know Turkish food is very famous in the world but it's not too popular in India and in this festival, we have tried to represent Turkish food culture," said Cuneyt Bahadir, a Turkish chef.
A meal for two would cost around Rs. 1,500 inclusive of taxes. (ANI)
