Haridwar, June 6 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Monday thanked the Supreme Court for issuing notice to the government on the forceful eviction of thousands of his supporters from Delhi's Ramlila ground.
"The cognisance taken by Supreme Court on its own against this injustice, we thank (it) from our hearts. The entire country is grateful," Ramdev told reporters here.
Taking suomoto cognizance of Baba's eviction by the government, the apex court gave the government two-weeks to respond.
On Sunday, petitioner Ajay Agarwal, an advocate, approached the apex court seeking a direction to the government to issue a white paper on the entire episode leading to the eviction of Ramdev.
In the petition, Agarwal has named Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram, Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahay and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal as the respondents.
Home Secretary GK Pillai and Delhi Police Commissioner B.K. Gupta are also among those named as respondents in the petition.
Ramdev also criticized the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, saying he failed to discharge his duties.
"I have all the respect for the Prime Minister of the country on a personal level, but he did not discharge his national duty," he said. (ANI)
