Dimapur, June 1 (ANI): Nagaland Government is keen on raising agricultural output and is going all out to motivate farmers.
Recently, 65 power machineries, including 33 tractors and 32 power tillers were distributed to beneficiaries from different districts of the state as a part of the Chief Minister Corpus Fund 2011-2012
"I hope through this process of modernization, our vision 2020 for food sufficiency will be fulfilled. And I have confidence on our farmers particularly the youth who will work hard," said Nagaland Chief Minister Nephiu Rio.
This process has been going on for the past five years.
During this period, the state government has tried to empower farmers and encouraged capacity building and entrepreneurship to achieve self-sufficiency. t is also providing technical training about machinery and modern tools to the farmers.
"I will use this power tiller for work in the field. Every year we used to face a lot of hardship. This year I am very happy with the Government for providing us with agricultural machinery. If the government continues to help us in the years to come, it will be good," said Gautalak, a beneficiary.
In Nagaland over 75 per cent of the state's population lives in villages and depends on agriculture for a livelihood.
But the overall income generation from the sector is below 20 per cent of the state's total income. This provides plenty of room for improvement in farming practices in the region. (ANI)
