New Delhi, May 31 (ANI): German Chancellor Angela Merkel met President Pratibha Devisingh Patil here on Tuesday.
In their meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Merkel and Patil discussed issues of bilateral importance to both countries.
Merkel is on her second visit to India since 2007. She joined a growing list of leaders, hailing from the United States to France to China, who are eyeing to cash in on India's stellar 8 percent economic growth and a desire to expand its defence system.
Earlier in the day, Merkel met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss ways to promote mutual trade and economic ties and push for reforms in global financial institutions.
Merkel is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising six federal ministers, which is expected to lobby for a lucrative 11 billion dollar fighter jet deal with New Delhi and seek Singh's support for the candidature of Christine Lagarde as the next International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief.
India and Germany signed four agreements on the sidelines of Merkel's visit.
Germany is India's largest trading partner in Europe, with bilateral trade on track to rise to 20 billion euros by 2012 from 15.4 billion euros in 2010. (ANI)
