Srinagar, May 15(ANI): The Indian Army on Sunday organized a fair in Srinagar to boost adventure sports among the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The fair was held in the scenic campus of army's infantry regimental centre at Rangreth in Srinagar.
It provided awareness about the rehabilitation and welfare schemes launched by the Union and state governments to pay tribute to the Veer Naris (war widows), disabled soldiers, veterans, serving soldiers and their dependents.
"The main objective of the fair is that, our soldiers who have basically given their best part of their lives to the nation while serving Army, Navy And Air Force. We take care of those who have dedicated their lives during Kargil and during 1970's war. As you have seen in the fair, a huge crowd was present and the aim is to be in touch with people and also to make them feel relieved from stress by showing some stunts," said Abdul Rashid, an army officer.
The fair also offered an opportunity to locals to see events like skydiving, motorcycling, and mass band display, dog shows, besides a display of weapons and equipment.
The people came from different districts of the valley and demanded to promote such events often, so that atmosphere could be varied with the happiness instead of abhorrence.
"They have invited us. And they told me that you are invited as your husband has led his life for the country. So, I felt very good when they honoured me even after my husband's death," said Seema, war widow.
Army veterans, war widows, school children, civilians from different parts of the Kashmir valley witnessed the fair with full of excitement.
Crowd witnessed the final call of the fair with the grand climax comprising melodious musical skill by the bandsmen. (ANI)
