Anni (Himachal Pradesh), May 11 (ANI): Hindu devotees residing in the hilly village of Anni in Himachal Pradesh attended a century-old religious fair here on Tuesday.
The five-day fair started on May 7 and concludes today.
During the event, devotees were seen carrying deities in palanquins and participating in traditional dances. The local deity-Lord Samshar Mahadev-led the procession.
Hundreds of villagers from the towns of Shimla, Kullu and Mandi gathered in Anni.
Narrating the history of the fair, Yogesh, the organiser, said it was first organised by a king.
"As far the history of this fair is concerned, it was organised for the first time by King Raghuveer Singh, when there was an epidemic and drought in this area. The king prayed to various gods for the prosperity of this place," he said.
During the fair, the village was adorned with colourful canopies, people were seen blowing trumpets and singing hymns in the fair.
"This is an old traditional fair. In this fair, deities from various far-off temples are brought and they meet each other in a procession. People also come from far-off places and witness the procession, which follows a traditional dance. It is a fair worth watching!" said Geeta Thakur, a local.
The natives believe prayers offered during the festival sanctify their souls and bring prosperity to the village. (ANI)
