Aligarh, May 10 (ANI): The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), which has been shut down indefinitely following a clash between two students' group inside the campus premises, today decided to reopen on May 13.
According to an AMU release: "The University will now reopen in a phased manner from 13th May instead of 16th May. Hostel facilities will now be available to all final year students of different faculties from 13th May. The annual examinations will commence from 18th May."
The university has in another major decision conceded the demand for providing accommodation to all internal students appearing in the engineering entrance test scheduled for May 14.
The university had been closed indefinitely on April 30 following a clash between two students group inside the campus.
Around 11 students got injured in the incident, when one of the students groups belonging to Azamgarh and the other having students predominantly from Bihar clashed with each other here last month. They also opened fire inside the campus.
The incident reportedly took place after the students from Azamgarh had levelled allegations against the Deputy Controller of the university for irregularities in admission procedure and sought his removal. The other group, however, backed the Deputy Controller.
The authorities had swung into action then and asked the students involved in the brawl to vacate the premises within 48 hours. (ANI)
