Itanagar, May 6 (ANI): Jarbom Gamlin was on Thursday night sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh replacing Dorjee Khandu, who was killed in a helicopter crash.runachal Pradesh Governor JJ Singh administered the oath and secrecy to Gamlin, who was the Power Minister in Khandu Cabinet.
The decision came following a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) attented by Union ministers B K Handique, V Narayansamy, Mukul Wasnik and Salman Khursheed.
The CLP sent a one-line resolution to Congress President Sonia Gandhi authorizing her to select the new leader.
Gamlin, a leader of the powerful All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union in early 1980s, was one of the front-runners for the Chief Minister's post.
The swearing-in of 50-year-old Gamlin came after Khandu's body arrived here.
Meanwhile, a state funeral will be accorded to Dorjee Khandu, who was killed in a chopper crash in Luguthang near Tawang District.
Khandu's last rites would be performed at his native village in Tawang on Friday.
The missing Pawan Hans AS350 B-3 helicopter that took off from Tawang at 9.50 a.m. on Saturday lost communication with the ground after it flew past the Sela Pass along the Chinese border about 20 to 25 minutes later. The helicopter was scheduled to land in Itanagar at 11.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Apart from Khandu, the people on board included crew members Captain J S Babbar and Captain K S Malick, Khandu's security officer Yeshi Choddak and Yeshi Lamu, sister of Tawang legislator Tsewang Dhondup. (ANI)
