Jamshedpur, May 5 (ANI): With the onset of summer and rising temperatures, the authorities at the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur city are facing difficulties in providing drinking water to elephants.
Samim Akhtar Beg, a forest official, said if water scarcity continues, elephants would be forced to migrate towards the Dimna Lake, which is situated in city, in search of water.
"There are over 60 water holes in Dalma, out of which around 40 have gone dry. For more water, boring is needed," he added.
Mangal Kashyap, forest ranger said authorities are working on the problem by adopting several measures such as deep boring in the water holes so that more and more water can be fetched out for the elephants.
"Our forest officials are working on the disaster management plans for Dalma Sanctuary. Deep boring is required with the help of portable generator. This should be done on other water holes as well. So this process will help in providing water for drinking and for other uses as well," he added.
Apart from the animals in the sanctuary, people living in the cities are also facing water scarcity. (ANI)
