Surat, May 5 (ANI): In a bid to expand their business, diamond traders of the Surat Diamond Association (SDA) have launched a web portal to retail their products online.
The jewellery companies are doing brisk business in domestic and international market through online sales, so the SDA has also decided to set up a similar online trading platform exclusively for small and medium-scale diamond and jewellery manufacturers in the city.
"The whole world is connected on Internet and people are doing business on Internet. So, with its help, we are also expanding the diamond trading business. India sells 80 percent of diamond required in the world and most of the diamonds sale is going on through Internet," said Praveen Nanavati, a diamond trader.
Nanavati added this will not only help the diamond and jewellery manufacturers to reach out to huge national and international markets, but reduce the dependence on diamond traders and the export firms based in Mumbai.
Dinesh Navadia, President of SDA said the diamond traders have to register their stock inventory on the online web portal and once the stock inventory is uploaded on the website, the customers from all over the world can select and place their orders online.
"After the economic recession in 2008-2009, the demand for diamond jewellery has increased. I feel that the young generation is getting attracted towards the diamond jewellery, but they don't have time to go and buy jewellery from the shop. So they can buy diamond jewellery online," said Navadia.
The SDA is also planning an effective marketing strategy to popularise the online web portal among national and international customers.ndia's turnover in the diamond-trading sector constitutes four to five percent of the world trade. (ANI)
