Mangalore, Apr 28 (ANI): Inspired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration 's (NASA) Mars Exploration Rover mission, a group of engineering students designed a high-tech robot here claiming that it would help to find out availability of water and study the topography on the planet Mars.
The students have named the machine 'Mars Rover'.
Sachin, a member of the students group that designed the robot, said such inventions should be promoted in the country.
"When I was browsing the 'Youtube' videos, I saw this NASA's video. So, I got excited and selected the members. We are seven members in this project. We started to construct this project and took three months to construct this and the worth money is 35,000 thousand rupees and it is well working now. Our main goal is that whatever discovery is going to be there, it should be in our country," he said.
Balachandra Hegde, another member of the group, said the rover picked objects and did several other tasks through using its robotic arms that is controlled by specially designed joystick.
"For this 'Mars Rover' we are using several types of sensors; temperature, pressure, metal and water sensors and pinhole camera is used for wireless navigations. A solar panel is used for charging 12.7-Ampere battery and this is special designed joystick from us and we are using up and down robotic arms for special purpose," he said.
NASA's Mars Exploration Rovers help determines whether Mars ever supported life and offer insight on its geologic and climate history. It would also be the first step in an effort to get samples from Mars back to Earth. (ANI)
