Karachi, April 26(ANI): The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) is planning to hold a tournament in the war-torn, militant-infested mountainous region of Waziristan, featuring top national players of the country.
In a bid to bring sporting action to war-stricken Waziristan, the PTF- well aware of the dangers the area possesses- has started preparations for holding an event in the region, which has been affected by US drone attacks since the start of the war on terror against Taliban resurgence.
"It is difficult but not impossible," The Express Tribune quoted PTF Secretary Mumtaz Yusuf, as saying.
"We will have to bring sports in the region, and we have already formulated an initial plan for holding the tournament," Yusuf added.
He said that all national players would participate in the event, adding that the PTF has already taken permission from the military, which controls the Waziristan region.
"All national players, including the senior players who are available, will take part in the event," said the PTF Secretary, adding: "The military has given us the go-ahead and have assured their support in holding the event."
According to Yusuf, the event would only be possible after July due to the hectic schedule of the PTF, which will hold a training camp under the newly appointed Indian coach Birbal Wadhera, besides preparing for the Davis Cup tie that takes place in July.
"A successful event will send a positive signal to the world and will also bring some respite to the people of the region," said Yusuf. (ANI)
