Malappuram (Kerala), Apr 11(ANI): At least two people were injured when clashes broke out between Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Muslim League workers in poll-bound Kerala's Malappuram district on Monday.

According to reports, the clashes broke out when CPM workers allegedly made references to the infamous 'ice-cream parlour sex scandal', which was linked to Muslim League strongman P.K. Kunhalikutty.

The police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the party workers.

An ice-cream parlour in Kozhikode was allegedly a facade for running a sex racket in the late 1990s.

When the matter came to light in 1997, Kunhalikutty was linked to the case, which took on political hues.

It threatened the UDF prospects in the 2001 assembly elections, and played a key role in the drubbing it got in 2006.

The elections to the 140-member Kerala Legislative Assembly will take place on April 13. (ANI)
