Kochi, Apr 9(ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM)-led Left Democratic Front government in Kerala has eclipsed the factor of growth by not reckoning it as an important factor.
Addressing an election rally in Kochi, Gandhi said: "They (Left Democratic Front) are simply not able to provide the type of industrial development, the type of progress that is required to really push Kerala forward."
He also said that Kerala has made tremendous advances in literacy and other areas over the last 60 years and the true potential of the people of Kerala is visible in other parts of the world, but still few things are not going right.
"Without IT (information technology), without telecommunications, without improvement in agriculture, you cannot do what you need to do to help poor people," Gandhi said.
Talking about the ideology of the Congress party, the General Secretary said that they could only help poor people if they have economic growth.
"The belief of the Congress party and the belief of the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) is that you can only help people, you can only help poor people, you can only give education, health care to poor people if you have economic growth," Gandhi said.
The elections to the 140-member Kerala Legislative Assembly will take place on April 13. (ANI)
