Tokyo, Apr 3 (ANI): Fukushima Governor Yuhei Sato has criticized the government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency for its late release of radioactivity data related to local farm produce shipments, which have been partly restricted amid the ongoing nuclear crisis in Japan.
The central government is considering lifting its restriction on shipments of vegetables tainted with radioactive substances after confirming levels below designated limits for consumption in three tests, it will take few days time for the results of each test to be released, said Sato.
"Can't you increase the number of examiners? The lives of farmers are at stake. It's a matter of whether they can live tomorrow," Sato said during a meeting of the Prefectural disaster relief task force.
He also criticized central government for being late in lifting restrictions. "I wonder if our sense of urgency is being conveyed to the government. It is irritating," The Kyodo quoted Sato, as saying.
After contaminated vegetables found in the prefecture, where crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station is leaking radioactive materials, the central government directed the Prefectural government on March 23 to halt shipments. (ANI)
