Politicians, actors congratulate Team India on World Cup victory

Mumbai, Apr 3 (ANI): Politicians and Bollywood personalities congratulated Team India on its World Cup triumph on Saturday.

 

An ecstatic Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya Scindia said the Indian cricketers had done the country proud.

 

"The way Gautam Gambhir and M.S. Dhoni played, they enhanced the respect and prestige of the country throughout the globe," said Scindia.

 

Former External Affairs Minister Shashi Tharoor described the match as a delighful experience.

 

"28 years and the first ever World Cup I have seen. So for me, it was wonderful when we won," said Tharoor.

 

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said: "Kudos to Team India for the pride they have brought to all of us. Let us keep up this spirit of determination."

 

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the win as a "stunning victory".

 

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said the Indian cricket team have conquered the world...The way our boys played it proves Indians can use their mind without fear and hold their heads high".

 

Sangeeta Bijlani, a Bollywood actress and wife of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, said: "I am very pleased, it was mesmerizing, it was butterflies in my stomach and it was really exciting since the last time I hadn't been able to see it."

 

Bollywood actors also took to micro-blogging site Twitter to congratulate Team India.

 

Actress Madhuri Dixit said: Congrats Team India!!! We did it!!!! Great job bringing the cup back!!! Strong work Dhoni, Tendulkar and company! What an awesome match. Both sides played well!

 

Actress Sushmita Sen said: Yipppeeeeee!!!! We are world champions again after 28 yrs! I can't stop crying...MS DHONI n our men in blue...take a bow!!! I love u guys!! What an honor it is to represent one's country...and to do it with your very best..SRI LANKA well played!! We salute your spirit!! God bless

 

India lifted the cricket World Cup after a gap of 28 years on Saturday with a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. (ANI)
