Dharamshala, (Himachal Pradesh) Mar. 23 (ANI): A committee is to decide whether the, Dalai Lama will retire politically or not.
The Tibetan spiritual leader had earlier announced his desire to step down as Tibet's political leader, saying kingship or spiritual leaders are no longer relevant and should make way for modern democracy.
If the Dalai Lama steps down, his power will be transferred to the Prime Minister of the Tibetan government in-exile Samdhong Rimpoche.
Members of the Tibetan parliament in-exile have been requesting the Dalai Lama to reconsider his retirement.
Rinpoche said that a committee would discuss how to deal with the situation.
He said: " I think the committee will meet and the honorable Speaker has instructed them that their report should be submitted in the parliament on March 23."
China, has described the Dalai Lama's resignation move as a "trick", saying that he uses religion to mask separatist activities.
The Dalai Lama will remain Tibet's spiritual leader and continue to advocate 'meaningful autonomy' for Tibet. (ANI)
