London, Mar 20(ANI): Manchester United have revived their interest in 15 million pound-rated Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa, 18 months after failing to secure a deal for the player described as the 'new Ronaldinho'.
Costa has scored 15 goals in 61 appearances for Ukrainian champions Shakhtar, who are due to face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
The 20-year-old was a seven million pound target for United in August 2009.
Costa was recommended to manager Sir Alex Ferguson two years ago by United's Brazil-based South America scout John Toulmin.
According to the Telegraph, with United looking for a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes, Costa's progress at Shakhtar has prompted the club to step up their interest in the player.
Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with the Brazil U-20 player. (ANI)
