No conflict between Akhtar and Kamran: Afridi

Colombo , Sat, 19 Mar 2011 ANI

Colombo, Mar 19(ANI): Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has dismissed suggestions that fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had come to blows with Kamran Akmal after the wicketkeeper dropped catches off his bowling during their World Cup Group A game against New Zealand.

Akmal had dropped Ross Taylor twice in the space of three deliveries, as he went on to score a whirlwind 131 not out to help New Zealand thrash Pakistan by 110 runs.

"Nothing happened between Shoaib Akhtar and Kamran Akmal. Nothing serious," the Daily Times quoted Afridi, as saying.

"I don't want to give you any breaking news," he added.

Afridi further refused to confirm whether Akhtar would return for Saturday's clash with Australia.

Akhtar, who announced on Thursday that he would retire from international cricket after the ongoing six-week tournament on the Indian sub-continent, was overlooked for Pakistan's last match against Zimbabwe.

"If we need him we will definitely give him a chance. I think he is enjoying himself whether he is playing or not," Afridi said. (ANI)
