London, Mar. 14 (ANI): The England management have denied reports that captain Andrew Strauss is to retire from one-day cricket after the World Cup, but there is growing sense this team is reaching the end of an era.
Defeat to the West Indies on Thursday will almost certainly eliminate England at the World Cup group stage.
England captains have stood down after the last two tournaments, with Nasser Hussain in 2003 and Michael Vaughan four years later relinquishing control of the one-day team following disappointing campaigns.
It would not be a surprise if Strauss, 34, decides to retire from one-day cricket at the end of this World Cup to concentrate on leading the Test team into the next Ashes series in 2013.
"What I can say, categorically, is Andrew and I have not had that conversation. It's purely speculation," The Telegraph quoted Hugh Morris, the managing director of the England team, as saying.
"It's not a conversation I've had. At the end of each winter series we have a robust debrief and Andrew will be involved, but at this stage we've had no discussions," he added. (ANI)
