Tehran, Feb 16(ANI): Conservative Iranian parliamentarians have demanded that prominent opposition leaders -Mir Hussein Moussavi and Mehdi Karroubi- should be prosecuted over the deadly protests in Tehran.
According to the New York Times, they marched through the central hall of parliament waving their fists and chanting: "Moussavi, Karroubi should be hanged!"
Of the 290 Parliament members, 222 signed a statement demanding that the government prosecute the two leaders.
It was at least the third time that they have been threatened publicly with prosecution, but the government has not pursued trials, perhaps because such an action could fuel new demonstrations, the paper said.
Iranian authorities have blamed the two leaders for violence on Monday after they called for a rally, which turned into deadly anti-government protests.
Two people were killed and several were wounded when the protestors clashed with the security forces. (ANI)
