Veteran Indian actor and the Padma Shree awardee Om Puri died of a heart attack at his residence. Om Puri was well known for his work in the film industry, as he earned name and fame in art cinema as well as in commercial cinema. He started his journey from theatres and reached to the mainstream commercial Pakistani, Indian and British cinema apart from making a dent in Hollywood.
The National Award winner Om Puri worked in more than 300 movies in which he played different roles and for that he achieved many great achievements in his life. Om Puri started his film debut in 1976 with the Marathi film “Ghashiram Kotwal” and in recent he was seen in the movies, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “Ghayal Once Again”. This shows that how this veteran actor played his role in comdedian, serious and romantic movies.
The sad news came from a family friend who said, at the age of 66, veteran actor Om Puri passed away this morning of a heart attack at his residence
The Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, who was going to direct Om Puri in his new movie, said, "It is very sad news. Om Puriji passed away after a heart attack today morning. He was at his home." "His body of work in the Indian film industry has been tremendous across the commercial and parallel genres. We've lost a great talent."
Actor Anupam Kher, a close friend of Om Puri, said he had spoken to him just two days ago, and the disheartening news of his demise was broken to him by filmmaker Ashoke Pandit. Kher described Om Puri as a "kind and generous" person, who spent four decades in showbiz with an undying passion towards his craft.
The disheartening news of demise of Om Puri made everyone in the film industry shocked. Many of the big names of Bollywood paid tribute to him whereas his fans are paying tribute on the social sites.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to the death of veteran actor Om Puri on PMO India twitter handle, “The Prime Minister condoles the passing away of actor Om Puri and recalls his long career in theatre and films.”
