While the whole world was busy raving about Android, which back then had landed as the hottest sensation, Microsoft (Nokia then) just couldn't stop gushing over their newest innovation, the Lumia devices.
Designed on the lines of BlackBerry and Apple iPhones, Microsoft had high hopes from Lumia and it was marketed as the next generation device that would completely take over the likes of iPhones and Google devices. The company assumed that their newest line-up, tagged with the growing mobile platform, would easily compete with mighty flagships in the market.
But sadly, none of this came true and the hopes fell flat. Initially, Lumia devices did manage to bag user attention with their classy design and promising features. However, the features as promised failed to deliver the results which apparently results in lost love among the users.
The Big Decision
And this is why, it has been reported that Microsoft has decided to discontinue with the Lumia devices. Latest buzz suggests that as things haven't gone as per company's plans, Microsoft will end the Lumia brand by December and henceforth no more Lumia devices would be made.
This new hasn't come as a surprise to anyone citing the past records. Ever since Lumia devices have hit the market, they have faced a dearth of customers. It was basically because of the Nokia loyalists that Lumia saw some initial sale. But owing to company's failure in providing good user experience with this high-end devices, the further sales got affected badly.
In fact, seeing the falling sale, Microsoft had cut down the prices of their Lumia 650 and Lumia 950 in the month of August. But as the company has decided to do away with Lumia brand, it is clear that the cut down in price has also not helped the company any way.
As of now, there happen to be four Lumia devices in market - the Lumia 550, Lumia 650, Lumia 950, and Lumia 950 XL. Sources say that Microsoft will not have new devices being made but they will keep the current lot until it's sold out fully.
Such reports were heard in the past also, it was learnt from various sources that Microsoft was not keen in continuing with the Lumia devices and it would soon end the brand.
However, in February 2016, the company took everyone by surprise by unveiling the new Lumia device, the Lumia 650. Well, that device was touted as the last in the Lumia category and so far we didn't come across any new Lumia device from the ends of Microsoft.
On the contrary, Microsoft is said to be launching a Surface Phone with Snapdragon 830 and 8GB of RAM. The new device is supposed to get launched some time in 2017. It is to be seen how this new flagship will fare for Microsoft!
