RBI announced increase in the daily ATM withdrawal limit to Rs. 4,500 from existing Rs. 2,500 effective from 1 January 2017. This is the third increase in the ATM withdrawal limit post denomination.
Just after demonization the ATM withdrawal limit was set at Rs. 2,000 per day. After few days it was increased to Rs. 2,500. Now new limit will be Rs. 4,500 from January, 1, 2017.
This increase in cash withdrawal limit is a New Year gift to the people in Indian, people are struggling due cash crunch post denomination.
"On a review of the position, the daily limit of withdrawal from ATMs has been increased with effect from January 1, 2017, from the existing Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,500 per day per card," the Reserve Bank of India said in a notification issued late on Friday.
Although there is no change in weekly withdrawal limit, which is still Rs. 24,000 per week for personal/saving account holders.
Banks are asked to ensure the disbursal of cash at ATM predominantly in denomination of Rs. 500 rupees notes. This is good news for the public as they were facing problems in using Rs. 2,000 notes in market.
As per data released by the RBI on December 21, it has supplied currency amounting to Rs 5.92 lakh crore till December 19, as against the Rs 15.4 lakh crore pulled out of the system through the demonetisation of high-value currency announced on November 8.
