Johannesburg, Jan 24 (ANI): The trial of French footballers Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema over charges that they had sex with an underage prostitute has reportedly been wrapped up as there was not 'enough proof'.
Bayern Munich winger Ribery and Real Madrid forward Benzema face up to three years in prison if found guilty, with the verdict expected on Jan. 30.
According to Sport24, however, the prosecutor sought the acquittal of the two footballers from the charges of having sex with the now 21-year-old Zahia Dehar as he argued that there is not enough proof that the players were aware the self-described was a minor at the time.
Ribery's lawyer earlier said on that his client was in Germany training 'and calmly waiting to end this painful chapter', insisting that the case has no basis as Ribery was unfairly targeted, and he also lamented the crossing of the 'barrier between public and private life'. (ANI)
