Lusaka, Jan 21 (IANS) The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has inspected Zambia's two ultra-modern stadia with a view of certifying the running tracks fit to host international competitions.
The two ultra-modern stadia, the Heroes National Stadium here in Lusaka and the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola in the Copperbelt province, will be used to host international competitions, reports Xinhua.
Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) technical director, Daouda Aziz, who led a direction that inspected the two stadia over the week-end, said the inspections were aimed at ensuring that the running tracks meet specific international standards.
"We are taking this opportunity of being in Zambia to start the process of certifying the running tracks for the two ultra modern stadia. They are beautiful structures I must say," he was quoted as saying by the media.
The official said he will compile a report after the inspections which will be presented the IAAF board before a final decision is made.
