Each year on September 29 is marked as World Heart Day - the day on which several health awareness campaigns are conducted across the world as cardiac diseases are being the leading cause of death.
This year too World Heart Day is scheduled to observe on September 29 (Sunday) with the mission to save your heart from all sorts of ailments.
To create social awareness among people, World Heart Day was created in 2000 and since then this day is celebrated every year.
According to WHO reports in 2008, Cardio-Vascular Diseases (CVDs) is taking lives of 17.3 millions every year and this data is rising rapidly every year. It is expected that by 2030, as much as 23 million people will die from CVDs annually, which will cross the population of Australia.
India too is running fast towards most number of cases of CVDs and as per an estimation, by 2015, India will become the ‘Capital of Cardiovascular Diseases’ in the world.
To create awareness among people, the World Heart Federation (WHF) - a recognize international Non-Government organization (NGO) based in Geneva (Switzerland) - is planning a massive campaign with the help of global partners in over 100 countries.
WHF is dedicated towards creating social awareness among public regarding several heart ailments and to prevent death caused by CVDs. It is also dedicated to prevent youngsters from various heart diseases. WHF with its members spread the news that at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke could be avoided if the main risk factors, tobacco, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, are controlled.
On September 29, 2013 WHF is planning to primarily focus on women and children from preventing CVDs and controlling deaths. WHF has also set a theme for this edition of World Heart Day and aiming to reduce the risk of CVDs among women and children.
For this WHF is conducting national activities such as public talks and screenings, walks and runs, concerts or sporting events with the members and partners of the organisation.
