East Delhi Mayor Mr. Ram Narayan Dubey today launched ‘E-Municipality Solid Waste Disposal Monitoring System’ project at East Delhi Municipal Corporation headquarters for better monitoring of solid waste disposal. Under this project, auto-tippers, trucks and loaders which are engaged in solid waste disposal will be monitored through GPS device, Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) readers and tags installed in these vehicles.
On this occasion, the Mayor Dubey informed that GPS device tags/RFID readers have been installed in the vehicles engaged in the process of collection and disposal of solid waste to make the whole process completely transparent and keep the East Delhi cleaner. He said that these devices will allow councillors and officials to monitor the functioning of these vehicles and to know the actual position of the vehicle at a particular point of time.
“GPS device will help know the actual movement of these vehicles and give the more accurate statistics related to solid waste collection and disposal. Hence, it will also be beneficial in making the policies in a better way in future,” said Mr. Dubey.
The Mayor also informed that total cost of this four-year project is Rs. 1, 92, 50, 000 and has been given to a private company M/s A. K. S. Software Limited. This company has installed VTS devices in 233 auto-tippers, RF tags in 81 secondary vehicles such as trucks, loaders etc and RF tags at 278 dhalaos. After the expiry of four years, this project would be handed over to East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Standing Committee Chairman in EDMC Mr. Sanjay Surjan said for this project the vehicles have been divided into two categories ? Primary and secondary. Primary category includes auto-tippers while trucks, loaders etc are into secondary vehicles category. These vehicles will go to their designated route each day in morning and move as per their route earmarked to collect the waste from door-to-door. The collected waste then has to be dumped by these vehicles at the respective dhalao.
Surjan further said when trucks and loaders will reach at dhalao to collect the waste, the drivers will scan the RF tags of trucks and loaders on their own using Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) device installed in the loaders. Thereafter, the loaders will load the waste in trucks and take a picture of the clean dhalao. “The photograph will immediately be uploaded on the server. With a Bluetooth printer, a photocopy of the slip will be prepared which will be handed over to the truck driver,” said Mr. Surjan.
