Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today dedicated Pt. Deep Chand Sharma Sahkar Bhawan to the Cooperative Movement in the Capital city. The new building has been constructed by the city government at Sector-20 Dwarka to provide its own building for its Headquarter to Delhi Cooperative Housing Finance Corporation (DCHFC) Ltd.
Dikshit expressed hope that the efficiency of DCHFC would increase on shifting in the new Headquarter which has been constructed in memory of late Pt. Deep Chand Sharma who remained its chairman for 10 years. His contribution in encouraging cooperative movement in Delhi, in particular, is highly appreciated. Delhi Cooperative Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan, local MP Mahabal Mishra, MLAs Dr. Bijender Singh, Somesh Shokeen were also present.
Dikshit stated that the DCHFC has contributed substantially in making cooperative movement successful in Delhi. The DCHFC is behind the success of cooperative group housing societies in the Capital city which facilitated construction of lakhs of dwelling units. The Corporation has disbursed housing loan worth ` 1000 cr. This is the only Corporation which has been offering loan at lowest rate of interest and is generating profit. It has also been giving huge amount as dividend to the government.
Chauhan stated that the Corporation granted first loan in 1982 when there was no institution dealing in home loans as far as group housing is concerned. The new Headquarter has come over an area of 1484 sq. meter. The construction has been executed by the Irrigation & Flood Control Department with an amount of ` 5.60 cr. The building has ground plus three floors and a basement with covered area of 1852 sq. meter. Shri Chauhan stated that the new Headquarter would continue to inspire members of the cooperative sector to enrich the essence of cooperative help and development.
