Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Monday revealed that the government is planning to open 7000 new bank branches across the country every year. Chidambaram said during his visit to his parliamentary constituency of Sivagangai in Tamil Nadu.
The finance minister was addressing to media after he inaugurated a new branch of the State Bank of India at Sivagangai Collectorate.
He said that this at least 20 new bank branches would be opened across the country each day.
Chidambaram said that he expects that ATM facility will be available for every bank by the end of March 2014.
The Finance Minister also revealed that Rs. 5, 75,000 crores would be disbursed to farmers as crop loans during fiscal 2013-14.
