Health Minister Dr. A.K. Walia stated that the city government has decided to commission a 800-bedded, full-fledged dedicated cancer institute as Delhi State Cancer Institute (South) with comprehensive and ultra-modern facilities of the best international standards. Dr. Walia exhorted the officers concerned to act in tandem to develop Chhatarpur a modern healthcare hub, which would also include a 200-bedded general hospital linked internally with the main DSCI (South) and a para-medical training institute.
Dr. Walia stated that there was a need to establish a comprehensive cancer care institute in South Delhi to provide world-class treatment facilities close to the lakhs of residents of various colonies coming under South Delhi. The DSCI has plans to open its branches but with coming up of the 800-bedded Cancer Institute in South, the patients from this area would be able to have better facilities than facilities available in a branch as DSCI (South) will have ultra-modern facilities and it will function as a comprehensive Cancer Care Centre.
This would go a long way in making Delhi a cancer-free state. The government has decided to make use of 14 acre land in Chhatarpur for this purpose. The officers concerned have been directed to expedite speed work to enable the city government to take off this all important project in the South Delhi.
Dr. Walia further stated that the earlier project of an independent 200-bedded general hospital would not be abandoned. The Hospital would be constructed on the earlier decided plot and would be linked internally with DSCI (South) to provide the latest facilities for the general hospital patients. To ensure avoiding any duplication of services upto some extent the common infrastructure and equipments would be made functional.
