Modi, Advani share ideology contrary to Mahatma Gandhi: JD(U)

New Delhi , Wed, 16 Oct 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Oct. 16 (ANI): Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi on Wednesday said that senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader L.K. Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi share an ideology that opposes non-violence, even though they might have had their differences when their party was narrowing down on their Prime Ministerial candidate.

"Both of them share an ideology in opposition to Mahatma Gandhi. Their fight is for an individual post, not for an ideology. Thus, I am not surprised by Advani's statement," Tyagi said when asked if he was surprised that Advani lauded Modi in a speech in Ahmedabad earlier today.

"They both have the same ideology. We have never doubted this. Even in 1991, through the Rath Yatra, we fought against their ideology. ...We never thought that as far as ideology goes, there is any difference between Advani and Modi," he added.

Earlier this year, the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) walked out of their long-standing alliance with the NDA.

Earlier today, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani praised his party's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, and said he would be 'elated' to see the Gujarat Chief Minister in the country's top office in 2014.

"I will be elated if Modi becomes the Prime Minister," Advani said at the inauguration of the Institute of Infrastructure, Research and Management ( IITRAM) campus in Ahmedabad.

"I am proud that our government in Gujarat and Narendra Modi are drawing praise not only in India but also abroad," he added.

L.K. Advani was initially against the BJP naming Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 General Elections in the country, and had stayed away from the crucial BJP parliamentary board meeting on September 13 when the decision was announced.

However, while addressing a rally in Chhattisgarh after the announcement, Advani publicly praised Modi on his elevation.

"Gujarat has improved a lot in infrastructure and electricity. I give this example because, Narendra Modi, who my party has appointed as the 2014 PM candidate, has done a lot for the development of the state of Gujarat," he said. (ANI)
