Russia rejects 'unconvincing' US evidence on Syrian chemical attack

Sydney , Tue, 03 Sep 2013 ANI

Sydney, Sept. 3 (ANI): Russia has rejected US intelligence claims that Bashar al-Assad's regime used chemical weapons in Syria.

Foreign minister Sergey V. Lavrov dismissed as unconvincing the evidence presented by Secretary of State John Kerry of chemical weapons use by the Syrian government.

In a speech at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, he said that the United States had fallen far short of making a case for international cooperation on military strikes against President Bashar al-Assad government.

According to smh.com.au, he said that Russia was shown certain pieces of evidence that did not contain anything concrete that chemical weapons attack was carried out the Syrian government.

Lavrov's remarks were the most pointed signal that Russia would continue to use its veto in the UN Security Council to block authorisation of military intervention against the Syrian government, the report added. (ANI)
