Life limps back to normal in Srinagar

Jammu And Kashmir,Politics, Mon, 22 Jul 2013 IANS

Srinagar, July 22 (IANS) Life limped back to normal after four days Monday as public transport plied and businesses opened in this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital.

Colleges, government offices, banks and post offices were also working.

Dozens of vehicles carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to the north Kashmir Baltal base camp and tourists to Sonmarg hill station started moving since early morning Monday.

The presence of security forces is being gradually reduced at markets and on the streets.

Official restrictions and separatist protests, leading to shutdowns, had paralysed life after firing by the paramilitary Border Security Force claimed six lives in Gool town of Ramban district Thursday.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has appealed to the people to resume normal activities. He has, however, called for peaceful protests after afternoon prayers.

He has also requested imams of various mosques to offer "Fateha" after congregational prayers for those killed.
