Washington, June 12 (ANI): The wheel has finally been reinvented -and it actually works better than the original.
Inventors behind a Los Angeles-based startup have created a cube-shaped skateboard wheel that they claimed offers faster speeds and a better grip, Discovery News reported.
Though based on a square, Shark Wheels feel perfectly circular when riding due to its sine wave-like pattern that looks like three snakes spooning each other.
Unlike traditional wheels, this design creates a thinner contact patch with the pavement, providing less rolling resistance and faster ride.
Created by Zack Fleishman, Shark Wheels - named because they resemble a shark's jaw - also help skaters avoid debris, a common nuisance for beachfront skaters of Southern California.
The company explained that the alternating pattern of grooves significantly reduces hydroplaning by channeling liquid, sand or gravel out and away from the surface of the wheel, allowing for a firm contact patch with the ground.
Further, it said, the rounded edges allow liquid, sand or gravel to pass around the wheel, providing unparalleled grip over wet and loose traction surfaces.
Creators have already made prototypes of the wheels and tested them with experienced skaters. (ANI)
