Republican lawmaker spills Jordan's role in Laden's son-in-law capture 'secrets'

Washington , Sat, 23 Mar 2013 ANI

Washington, Mar 23 (ANI): A delicate US government agreement to keep secret Jordan's role in the capture of Osama Bin Laden's son-in-law has been upset by Republican Peter King's public thanks to the Middle Eastern country for their role in the operation, according to government sources.

King, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, was the first U.S. official to confirm the arrest of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith, and thanked 'our allies Jordan' for help capturing Ghaith, who was a spokesman for al-Qaeda, the Huffington Post reports.

According to the report, while Jordan is one of the closest U.S. allies in the Middle East, it would have preferred not to have its role mentioned because cooperating with the U.S can be politically toxic in the Middle East.

However, King defended his revelation, stating that Jordan's role in the operation was no secret, adding that he was never told to keep his mouth shut over the operation.

King further said that he learned of Jordan's assistance informally, from calls from reporters following up on foreign reports and from friends in New York's law enforcement community. (ANI)
