Obama enjoying career-high approval rating for handling immigration issue, finds poll

Washington, Thu, 07 Feb 2013 ANI

Washington, Feb. 7 (ANI): President Barack Obama has got his strongest-ever approval rating for his handling of the immigration issue, according to a new poll.

An ABC News/Washington Post survey found that 49 percent of Americans approve of his immigration strategy, while 43 percent disapproved of his performance on the issue.

The poll said that in July, his approval-disapproval rating on the issue clocked in at 38-52 percent, and his current 'approval score now numerically beats his previous best, three months after he took office, albeit by a single point.'

According to Politico, the poll found that Obama's figures were up in the wake of several recent immigration proposals, which enjoyed even higher ratings.

The survey found that Americans back a path to citizenship for undocumented citizens, 55-41 percent, and support stricter border control, 83-15 percent.

A separate survey, out on Tuesday, found that most Americans back a variety of immigration reform proposals that have surfaced as Washington tackles the issue.

It found that more than 70 percent Americans support a path to citizenship for undocumented workers already in America.

According to a Gallup survey released, 72 percent of Americans support a pathway to legal residency or citizenship for undocumented workers already in the country, as long as they meet certain requirements, with 25 percent of those surveyed opposed.

Support for more spending on border security clocks in at 68 percent in favor to 29 percent opposed.

Americans supported increasing the number of visas for legal immigrants highly skilled in technology and science, 71-27 percent, the report added. (ANI)
