Dalai Lama inaugurates the World Congress regarding obesity disorder

New Delhi, Mon, 17 Sep 2012 NI Wire

Spiritual leader Dalai Lama has said that every individual should pledge to take care of his or her body and lead a healthy life. I would like to urge everyone in support of this initiative to increase awareness by signing the pledge. The spiritual leader Dalai Lama was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of the XVII World Congress of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) organized by Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.

IFSO-Asia Pacific Chapter (IFSO-APC), the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Society (APMBSS) and the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of India (OSSI) are supporting the Congress.

On the occasion, Dalai Lama said that, "Common man sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived healthy."

He further said that it is indeed a pleasure to be associated with such a noble cause which Dr Pradeep Chowbey and his team is trying to promote through this conference i.e. fight against obesity.

The event witnessed 1,200 renowned doctors from 65 countries including UK, USA, Australia, Dubai etc and some of the eminent spokespeople from across the globe including Dr. Pradeep Chowbey, Congress President and Vice Chairman-Max Healthcare, Chief- Surgery and Allied Surgical Specialities and Director- Max Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MAMBS) at Max Super Speciality Hospital.
