Amid pressure upon the center from all political parties of Tamil Nadu, Union Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reportedly decided to send back nine Lankan trainee airmen to Lanka, media reports say.
According to media reports, Defence Ministry has accepted the demand of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and leader f opposition DMK Chief M Karnanidhi who were echoing together on sending back to trainee Sri Lankan pilots from TN's Tambaram airbase.
In this regard, MoD has issued a statement quoting, "All Sri Lankan trainees are being sent off today from this station as per instruction of the ministry of defence."
The jawans had arrived recently at the Tambaram Air Force station in Chennai for a nine-month training period, which drew strong protest from ruling AIADMK, opposition DMK, and MDMK.
Earlier, the protest began from Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa who was demanding to send back the Lankan air force personnel citing it as 'anti-tamil'. She later got the support of all parties of Tamil Nadu.
They were protesting Sri Lanka over its recent alleged act of 'after war crime against The Tamil'.
"It's inappropriate when countries are demanding action against Lanka for violations during the war," said Jayalalithaa Thursday.
"It is a matter of concern, considering the cruelties faced by Tamils in Lanka," said MDMK Chief V Gopalswamy, popularly known as Vaiko.
