A study carried out by European Lung Foundation and Forum for International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) in India has revealed that Indians underestimates lung diseases and lacks knowledge about it.
This study was released today on June 27 on World Spirometry Day. World Spirometry Day aims to aware people about lung health and disease.
(Spirometer is an instrument to measure lung capacity.)
The study revealed that Indians worries about heart disease and cancer more but hace a worrying lack of concern about lung diseases. Indians also does not know about the measures or indications of lung cancer.
"The survey revealed that 62 percent of respondents have never had their lungs tested," said the study.
Klaus Rabe, president of the European Respiratory Society said, "Chronic lung disease is a major health issue but it has widespread ignorance and people lack in knowledge of what can be done to prevent it".
"Even gentle walking for those with severe disease can help in improving lung capacity and general well being and we must get this message through to patients," he added.
Lung diseases kill four million people every year.
