Bill & Melinda Gates charity foundation has just given $100,000 to Dr. Sarah Haigh who leads a research team from three top British universities and believes that nano -technology can extract clean water from human waste.
Manchester University's, Dr. Sarah Haigh, an expert in nano - technology, who vied with 2000 other competitors with the shrewd proposal, will receive another million dollars next year if it actually works.
They have made a machine that can turn used sewage water into drinkable water after sent through various processes.
This invention can prove revolutionary for the people in the third world, as clean water can be a matter of life and death in these regions.
The process will involve waste going into a container that will have bacteria and nano-particles, which will react with water and produce energy. After completion of process remaining water will be took out as drinkable.
Though the result may not be like mineral water but it still could be the difference between life-and-death in regions where clean water is barely available.
"This technology will be particularly important for remote locations in developing countries and will have the added benefits of reduced pollution and lower waste disposal costs," Haigh said.
She added, "I get a lot of comments about the research I do. I don't mind people making jokes as long as they're clean ones".
