The start was not good for the champions as star studded team of Chennai Super Kings bowled out for 112 runs allowing Mumbai Indians to make an easy victory. Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan Singh's decision to bowl paid off and his bowlers managed to restrict defending champions for a small total.
Desperation and lack of a definite game plan surfaced in the CSK attack and three of its batsmen including skipper Dhoni were run out. Mumbai bowlers Lasith Malinga (2/16), Pragyan Ojha (2/17) and Kieron Pollard (2/15) did not allow the opponents to make big partnerships.
Mumbai Indians got the breakthrough in the first over when Ambati Rayudu's direct throw showed Faf du Plessis (3) way to pavilion. Murali Vijay too failed to make a big score and Harbhajan caught him. The largest scorer for Chennai Super Kings was SK Raina who made 36 runs on 26 balls.
Mumbai Indians achieved the easy target in 16.5 over losing two wickets.
