2G case: SC begins hearing for both petitions

Today Supreme Court started hearing the two petitions filed against investigation of involvement of Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his alleged role in the 2 G spectrum scam. Supreme court has posted the next date as April 11, 12 and 13 for the next hearing. Meanwhile court has said CBI to file a status report in the case within three weeks.

SC has started the hearing of the petition filed by Janata Party leader Subramaniyam Swamy in which he has alleged that Chidambaram has a role in the telecom scam as he was then Finance Minister and allocation prices were decided was in his knowledge.

Swamy has alleged that Chidambaram was aware regarding the Raja's action in fixing the prices of allocation and he should intervene for the national interests. It is noted that a CBI court rejected Swamy's petition and then he approached SC for the verdict.

Another petition was filed by social activists and lawyer Prashant Bhushan under a NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation has filed alleging that Chidambaram during his tenure as Finance Minister overruled his officers who favoured the auction of the spectrum.
